Are Go-Kart and Mini Bike Parts Similar?

Why does it seem like sometimes, go-kart sellers and minibike dealers sell exactly the same parts? Are they trying to put one on us, or is there a good reason for this?? Well, the good news is, they aren't gearing up to be reported to any consumer rights organization anytime soon - as a matter of fact, go-karts and mini bike parts are quite similar. You can build a go-kart out of spare parts from your minibike, and vice versa!

Granted, go-karts and mini bikes aren't exactly the same. They clearly have different builds, different engines (commercial go-karts call for more powerful Tecumseh engines than those required by mini bikes) and different offroad uses. However, there are some major mini bike parts that are interchangeable with go-kart parts. This list aims help you go through some of them:

1. Brake parts - cables, discs, and drums, are often interchangeable between go-karts and mini bikes. Fittings for brakes would also fall into this category.

2. Clutches - Many go-karts and mini bikes operate on centrifugal or converter clutches. Some shops sell parts of these clutches.

3. Roller chains - Both go-karts and mini bikes require roller chains for smooth operation. The tools needed to keep these roller chains in good working order would also normally work for both vehicles. Chain guards and breakers are also typical to find in the same shop.

4. Suspension components - Take your pick from hydraulic shock or adjustable mechanical shock components. These will depend on the kind of suspension you wish to install on your vehicle. A higher load compression would usually mean your vehicle is geared to handle more weight. Ordinary mini bikes will not normally need heavy duty suspension implements, although you should give some consideration to these if you are building go-karts.

And needless to say, ordinary gear like screws and sprockets would also have some parallels between both vehicle types.
