The Baja Minibike: Prince of the Offroad

There are many reasons why people would want minibikes. One is that they are cheaper than bigger bikes, and would therefore be more practical to ride. But as minibikes are often not street legal, most of them need to be ridden offroad, or in the appropriate assigned zones for leisurely rides or racing. There are also different bikes for different purposes - some are for show, some are for racing, and some are for heavy hardcore use. If you are looking for an offroad bike, you will need one with a reputation for excellent offroad performance. With that in mind, you can never go wrong with a Baja minibike.

Like its parent, the full-sized Honda Baja, the Baja minibike was built primarily for offroad travel. Racing might be a stretch, as it is quite hard to streamline for speed. For racing offroad, however, it may be a considerable competitor: it could glide over terrain that could very well traumatize other minibikes.

Strength is the main feature of this particular model. The original full-sized Baja bike comes with a powerful four-stroke single cylinder engine, the performance of which the minibike seeks to emulate. The shocks are fortified to withstand serious jarring. The seats are wider and more comfortable than other minibikes, which is always a must for any rider aiming to brave a rough trail.

Offroad routes come with their own hazards, however. Sometimes journeys in extremely high altitudes will involve fogging and riding in darker zones. You need not worry: many Baja bikes, large or small, come fitted with extra fog lamps and high-powered Xenon headlights. Baja motorbikes have been customized especially for nighttime trail blazing, as they are also often a top pick of touring services. If you are looking for a service that could help you go on a tour across Mexico, Thailand or Laos, say, chances are you'll most easily find one that uses Baja bikes for onroad travel.

The larger and original Honda Baja has a high seat, which might not make it so rider-friendly to shorter riders. But with the Baja minibike, this particular feature is yet another one you would not have to worry about!
