Buy an electric scooter

There are many reasons to buy an electric scooter. Once sold primarily for recreational riding, today many people buy an electric scooter for use as a primary mode of point-to-point transportation for commuting and running day-to-day errands. In addition, since electric scooters have no toxic emissions, it’s no longer uncommon to see people with mobility problems happily gliding down mall hallways and department store lanes.

When you buy an electric scooter, probably one of the hardest decisions you have to make is the scooter style. Electric scooters have a variety of both new and traditional looks from the basic motorized kick scooter to the three or even four wheeled scooters used by those with mobility problems. Although mobility problems needn’t limit your style since even today’s “medical” scooters are designed for pleasure as much as necessity.

Whatever your reason, before you buy an electric scooter, carefully consider how you’ll use it. Electric scooters come with small motors and small batteries that will get you around the block and high wattage motors that will hold a charge up to 20 miles, climbing hills with ease and carrying a payload of 300+ pounds besides! Another important consideration when you buy an electric scooter is the accessories you’ll need. Will you need a basket or trunk to haul consumer goods like groceries? Will you need headlights for night riding?

If you buy an electric scooter primarily for mobility, do consider its weight and ease of transporting it to and from your larger, more traditional motorized vehicle. Will it fit in a truck’s extended cab or automobile’s back seat? Will it fold up handily so that it doesn’t take up too much room in the back of your van?

Finally, when you buy an electric scooter either for recreation or utility, do consider scooter maintenance. Make sure that parts are readily available if you need them and if you aren’t able to maintain your scooter, be sure to find someone who can before you make your purchase.
