Buying Cheap Pocket Bikes
Pocket bikes are attractive because they are fun, and they can be inexpensive. However, a cheap pocket bike isn't always the best buy. It depends a great deal on how you plan to use your cheap pocket bike.
If you plan to enter serious pocket bike races, a cheap pocket bike is out of the question. You will need a top of the line bike that is fully outfitted for racing. However, you may be able to buy a cheap pocket bike, and upgrade it more inexpensively than you could buy a top of the line bike for - achieving the same results. You might also choose to purchase a used pocket bike, although pocket bikes are so inexpensive, you may do just as well by buying a new one.
The cheap pocket bikes are made in China, Thailand, and Japan. Italy turns out the most expensive - and the highest quality - pocket bikes. You can purchase a bike made in China, Thailand, or Japan, and outfit it with a performance package. You can buy the bike alone for around $200.00, and expect to pay close to $300 for the performance package. You can also choose to buy individual parts for upgrades, and upgrade slowly, as you can afford to, or as you find out what you need to be a better competitor.
Anyone new to the pocket bike sport should start out with a cheap pocket bike, and upgrade as needed. This will keep you from wasting your money on parts or upgrades that you simply do not need. If you are purchasing the pocket bike for a kid, you definitely want to go with a cheaper model, as kids don't tend to take care of things as well as most adults do. In most cases, the cost of the bike does not affect the safety of riding it.
Again, the pocket bike you choose will depend a great deal on what you want to use it for. Don't rush to make a purchase. Determine what you need before shopping, and walk in to the store knowing exactly what you want.
