Pocket Bike Racing
So, you're ready to race your pocket bike. That isn't surprising. Aside from being incredibly fun, many famous motorcycle racers got their start in pocket bike racing as well. But how do you find the races, and how do you know which ones you should enter?
Start with your friends in a big empty parking lot. Make sure you have permission from the parking lot owner first. You can buy cheap cones to make your track, and use old tires as well. Set up a course, and practice racing with your friends.
Next, visit your local go-cart track. Many go-cart tracks now hold organized pocket bike races, and these races are considered to be the safest ones. That means that this is the place for beginner racers to start.
The next place to look for races is your local pocket bike dealer. They usually have information on all the big and small races that are coming up, and they may even be sponsoring some of them. Find out if they have a mailing list, where you can be notified by mail or email about upcoming races.
You can also check with the United States Minimoto Grand Prix (USMGP) at http://www.usmgp.com/ to find information about races in the United States. Here, you will also be able to find out about local chapters, which will enable you to find races that are closer to home. The USMGP also has a great listing of tracks.
When you are at the races, keep your ears open for talk about upcoming races. Other racers are a great source of information - and they look forward to the competition. Do a little networking before and after the race to find out where the next big race is. Before you know it, you will have a line on so many pocket bike races, but you won't be able to participate in them all. Don't jump in with the big boys too fast. Participate in as many beginner races as you can at first, so you can learn what pocket bike racing is all about.
